Eliza Kentridge uses paper and cloth to make pictures which distil something of human experience. Using diverse reference points, her images, which range from the poignant to the comic, are about people, their relationships with each other and with the viewer.
She finds inspiration in photographs, cartoons, African and European textiles, as well as found scrap, all messages of daily life. Her art inhabits a realm where traditional methods and concerns join forces with a contemporary sensibility. Her works in charcoal, fabric, tracing paper and embroidery are increasingly collected and commissioned.
